Anniversary Day o' Fun

August 18th was our six year anniversary (I just had to do the math...every time I have to do the math...will that ever change?), and Julie and Tim volunteered to watch Trey for the day.  Randy and I decided to head east.

Randy and I started with a hike in the Gorge.  We ended up at Mosier Twin Tunnels which didn't feel very hikish because the trail was paved, but the views were pretty.  We decided this would be a perfect place to take Trey for either a "hike" or a bike ride and are hoping to do so at the end of September before the Hood River Hops Fest

After our "hike" we stopped by Nicole and Danny's house in the Dalles.  Unfortunately, Danny was in Portland, but we got to visit with Nicole and her sister Heather for a bit before we started our wine tasting tour of the Gorge.  I was very amused that Nicole has a bottle of Boones Farm in her fancy wine cellar.

We hit three wineries on the Washington side of the gorge, and we left with a new favorite.  First we went to Maryhill which I thought was okay.  We were going to hit the museum too, but we ran out of time since we spent too long at Nicole's house.  After Maryhill we went to Cor Cellars which we loved.  We joined their wine club (I think Randy had an itch to do this after Julie and Tim joined a wine club), and, unfortunately (ha), we have to go there twice during the year to pick up our wine.  Two required trips to the Gorge to get wine?  Okay, twist our arms.  We stopped at Syncline on the way back to Hood River.  We have heard a lot of good things about this place, but we both liked Cor better.

We were planning on going to Pfriem for dinner in Hood River on the way back, but we got to Hood River at 4 o'clock which is just a little too early for dinner.  We decided to stop at Double Mountain for a pint before dinner.  We enjoyed Pfriem and had a fun conversation at the bar with someone from Fort George Brewing in Astoria (definitely need to check out that place).  I think Randy and I both agreed that we enjoyed the IPA at Pfriem better than the food - maybe this is the secret of success for the first six years of our marriage...we can always (or almost always) agree on beer.

Randy and I had a great anniversary day together. Huge thanks to Julie and Tim for watching our boy all day.  And I can say that at least one of us had a mild headache the next day...sounds like a successful anniversary to me!

Here are some shots from our special day.  We were so lucky and blessed to have such a great showing of our family and friends, and the celebration was the best!
