Weekend Mini-Roadtrip

A few weeks ago we drove to Eugene for my cousin Jenny's wedding.  It was a quick trip as we drove down Saturday morning and came back Sunday afternoon.  Jenny is my mom's brother Lloyd's youngest daughter.  Here are some pics from the wedding which will probably only be interesting to those of you who know my extended family.  The only commentary I'll make is that this day was hot as hell.  Randy stayed home at my dad and Sandy's house with Trey (no kids at the wedding), and that was a real blessing because Trey would have been miserable at the event (and I don't think Randy would've been much better).

Sandy and I were correct in assuming that there wouldn't be any adult beverages at the wedding.  We snuck in a bottle of wine in our cooler (since we were supposed to bring a side dish to share - that's why we had the cooler), and I snuck off to the bathroom to refill our glasses.  Felt a little bit like I was a teenager sneaking drinks...

I was a flower girl in Debbie's wedding in 1981.  It was hot as hell that day too and I remember having to wear a long sleeved floor length dress.  It was miserable (but the pictures remain some of my favorites).

Sunday we had a nice morning at my dad and Sandy's house.  My dad and Trey played a three-year-old version of Sorry, and we had some fun on the trampoline.

Love this one of Trey and my dad...

Sunday afternoon (around naptime, of course), Trey and I drove back to Happy Valley for Camille's birthday party.  The thermometer in the car said it was 100 degrees on the freeway and 94 degrees at Camille's house.  They had a lot of fun outdoor activities set up, but Trey wanted nothing to do with it, so we spent the whole time inside.  Totally okay with mama!

We had a few days at home before we left for our Fourth of July beach vacation.  I'm definitely getting into the swing of summer and really enjoying our days home together and my child-free days when he goes to daycare.
These daisies were first used in my parents' wedding reception in 1970.  When my dad sold my parents' house, we transplanted some to our home in NE Portland.  When we moved in December, we transplanted them again.  I was a little nervous about how they would do being transplanted in the winter, but they bloomed this year right on schedule.  It's crazy to think that if my mom was still here they would have just celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary!

Last Tuesday I dropped Trey off at daycare and went on a walk at the Cooper Mountain Nature Park.  This may end up being my go-to walk spot when Trey's at school (and with Trey if he'll let me put him in the stroller).  It is so beautiful out here, and it's about 7 minutes from my house!  After my walk, I went to see a movie by myself (Before Midnight - LOVED IT), went to sushi, and got some frozen yogurt.  It was about as ideal of a day alone as I could ask for.

On Wednesday we went to meet Amy and her daughter at Cook Park before we packed up and went to the beach.  The complaint I have about playgrounds and three year olds (or maybe it's just my three year old) is that once he makes a run around the play structure, climbs the steps, steers the steering wheel, etc. he is done.  He make take a turn on the swings, but that's about it.  It certainly makes for some short park trips.

Now I don't want to type too much about this as it is going well, but lately our nap plan of attack has been Trey falling asleep in the car and then I transfer him into our bed.  I think it has worked four times (counting this very moment).  I will take what I can get, but I don't expect it to work throughout the whole summer.  One thing I will say is that I think my parenting experience would be quite different if I had a normally napping child.  Having 1.5-2 hours to myself in the afternoons is quite divine and I have never really experienced it.
