"It is in this unearthly first hour of spring twilight that earth's almost agonized livingness is most felt. This hour is so dreadful to some people that they hurry indoors and turn on the lights." - Elizabeth Bowen
How did my baby turn into a five year old boy?
Somehow pictures like this just shock me to my core.
One April Saturday we went to meet our old preschool friends for Everett's birthday party. It was fun to catch up, and I got a glimpse of what Trey might look like with a moustache...
The kids and parents played lasertag and ran around like goofballs. I was glad that Randy came with me so he could do the lasertag with Trey and I got to read about neuropsychology on my phone.
Happy Birthday, Everett!
Trey got some bug in April and spent the day home with Dad. I got this cute pic sent to me at work of Trey and Bailey napping on the couch. You know that when Trey naps he really feels crappy because that boy stopped napping when he was maybe two. Okay, maybe three, but it was really young.
I felt like I hardly saw my boy this spring with grad school and work commitments. We often Facetimed right before I left work just to get a few more minutes of... well, face time.
More tee ball...
It says a lot about my mothering skills this spring that I cannot remember if this picture is of Trey's first or second lost tooth. I think it's his second, but I feel really terrible that I'm not sure...
I signed Trey up for a theater class this spring at NW Children's Theater. It was conveniently timed during happy hour in NW Portland. On several of the weeks, Randy went with me and we had a nice happy hour date while Trey was at class, but sometimes I was on my own. On this fun day, I was sitting at a bar on NW 21st with my beer and homework and really missing living "in the city."
The class did performances each week at the end of their class. Trey is on the very left sitting on the floor.
The boy is much more comfortable in this setting than on a field...
One Sunday in April we went to meet Nicole and Danny's new baby at their baby-greeting party. Before we went, we met up with Kris and John for some lunch and drinks. One of my favorite things about spring is being able to sit outside again.

Trey and his kindergarten class had their Hundreds Day Party. I wasn't able to go or help out (damn work), but my friends sent me some pictures. It was almost like being there...
Trey's school had an arts and craft night, so we headed over for the festivities. He had a good time going to the different stations, and I hobbled around as it was at the beginning of my illness (see future post).
One Saturday before theater class, we went down to the waterfront and walked across the newest bridge in Portland. This bridge is only open to pedestrians, bikes, busses, and the MAX.
Another theater performance!
Trey is second from the left.

At the end of April I helped out in another cooking class - this one on dim sum. I honestly don't remember much about this class because two days later I was in the hospital. Looking at the menu makes me realize what a fog I was in...I honestly don't think I remember tasting any of these foods.
For some reason, I really like this light fixture.
Not sure why but I'm drawn to it every time I go to Hipcooks.
