Sunrises, Spinach, and Super Heroes

Have I told you about the wedding yet?  No?  Let me...

Our friends Kris and John, who you have read about before, are getting married in Hawaii in a month (April 25th to be exact).  We have an opportunity to go to Hawaii with them and a few other friends to help celebrate their wedding and be there as they say their vows.  We are all staying in a very nice house right on the beach together, and we are VERY excited.  And have I mentioned that Trey is staying home?

I'm getting a little nervous about being away from him for four nights.  Randy and I have both been away from him overnight separately, but together we have only been away one night.  I know Trey will be well cared for and safe being with my dad and Sandy while we are gone, but, of course, I am still a little worried about how it will go...mostly, how he will do with being away from me for so long.

Kris and John are having a reception in Oregon this summer to celebrate with many more family and friends who are not making the trip to Hawaii.  A few weeks ago we went with them out to the winery where they will have their reception so we could taste some wine and Kris could pick up their wine club shipment.

After the winery, Randy, Trey and I stopped at ABV again for happy hour.  We really like this new place that is out in the 'burbs.  Randy and I enjoyed some beer and treats while Trey enjoyed unlimited iPad time.

My commute is really starting to wear on me, and that is one reason I am exploring some job changes for next year.  The unknown, the stress of making a good choice, and the anxiety of not knowing what is coming next is not a great combination for me, but time will tell what the future holds.  Stay tuned.  In the meantime, one benefit (maybe the only one) of my commute is getting to see sunrises like this.  Beautiful.

On a sunny Saturday, Randy, Trey, and I went out to the gorge to do our favorite combination of weekend activities - hike, stop at Cor Cellars for some wine, and then go to Hood River.

Someone in my family was not being cooperative with the selfie.

Trey literally ran for the whole loop.  Impressive.

So far we are only up to a mile of Trey walking/running on his own, but Randy and I are ready to build his endurance so we can go on slightly longer walks/hikes than this one.  It's a tricky balance because once we hit his limit, guess who gets to carry him the rest of the way?  (Hint: not Randy)

Taking a rest

Can't believe our boy is closing in on 4.

Wine for us and peanut butter crackers for Trey.  Perfect.

I know I've mentioned Pfriem before, but what could be better than a great park, great scenery, and a great brewery all within a stone's throw?  This has become one of our pitstops on our Gorge journeys.

The next day Randy went fishing and my playdate fell through.  It wasn't raining and it was perfect weather to go to the zoo.  I've been wanting to see the lion cubs for a while, so Trey and I packed up for a spontaneous zoo trip.

It's a good thing I took the stroller because my boy was cranky as hell the whole time we were at the zoo.  Wouldn't get out of the stroller.  Wouldn't let me pick him up to show him any of the animals.  Didn't even want to see the lion babies.  It was a fast trip, but at least it got me some steps on my fitbit.  And a view of the lions, of course.

We've been working on bedtime again, and Trey has been great.  His last reward was baking cupcakes (a treat for everyone), and he's just about to earn his next one.  Our next treat is to go see Frozen in the movie theater.  It will be his first time in the theater, and I might be more excited than he is.  Now, let's just hope that Frozen stays in the theater a few more days so we can make it.  If not, the Lego Movie will do.

Trey has been talking about his friends a lot lately, so we scheduled two playdates with his two favorite girls.  First we had lunch with Marika and Vivi, Trey's former daycare provider and her daughter.  Those two are like brother and sister.  I wish we saw them more.

Then we went to Mindy's for a playdate with Camille.  We also got a delicious dinner out of the deal, and the boys got to watch the Duck basketball game.  An unfortunate ending for the ducks, but a great playdate for the kids.

Sunday was a gorgeous day, and we spent time outside, of course.  It was harder to get Trey outside than you would think.  Crazy kid.

Got his water table all cleaned up and ready to go.

Got some pea and spinach seeds planted.  Next step: lettuce starts.

Trey has been learning so much lately and you can tell his mind is constantly working.  Lately we have been having some interesting conversations in the car with questions like these:
"Mommy, what does old mean?"
"Mommy, where is heaven?"
"Mommy, is Great Grandma going to die soon?"
"Mommy, what does die mean?"

Yikes, kid!!!

Then he's been talking about being born and me picking him up at the "baby store."  When I've explained to him that I didn't get him at the baby store but that he was born at the hospital, he has started talking about when I picked him up at the hospital.  I've told him that he grew inside of me and then was born at the hospital, not picked up, but I am saying a silent prayer in my head of "Please don't ask any more questions.  Please don't ask any more questions."

He has also been making a transition from Mickey Mouse and Doc McStuffins to Transformers and Super Heroes.  OMG!!!  What is happening to my little boy?  I went to ToysRUs to look for some new toys and I feel way over my head.  When Randy and Trey were talking about the Rescue Bots and Randy was listing off their names, I said, "How do you know their names?" and he said, "Well, they haven't changed over the past 40 years."  They've been around for 40 years?  Clearly, I am out of my league with all this new boy stuff.

I was really excited to dive into a new book over spring break and read one that I have been wanting to read for a while (one of those lists with good literature that everyone should read also inspired me).  I was trying to decide between three books from my shelf and went with Jane Austen's Emma.  It's now Thursday of spring break and I'm only on page 20.  I think I may have to move on to something else that moves a little faster.  The good news is that Emma puts me right to sleep.  The bad news is I don't have anything next on my stack...
