Oh, spring break, how you leave us so quickly.

Sunday afternoon of spring break...it's kind of a depressing time, isn't it?  This spring break hasn't been as fabulous as some people's breaks probably were, but it was nice to have a break from work.  The best part of spring break was not having to leave the house at 6:45 every morning.  Lazy mornings (or not even lazy - just not rushed) are my favorite.  I worked a little bit over the break and also got ready for my class at PSU which starts tomorrow.  I also managed to tackle several items on my to-do list, so I'm starting spring term feeling momentarily unstressed...so that's worth something, for sure.

One of my goals for spring break was to try a new recipe every day.  I'm not sure if I've met my goal exactly, but I've done pretty well.  A few were busts (a turkey lasagna that Randy didn't even finish - bad sign), but a few were really good.  One of my favorite cookbooks/food blogs is Dinner: A Love Story, and I made the turkey chili from her book.  It was super easy, and I will definitely put it in the weeknight rotation.  The other one we really liked was a salad that we ate with some delicious steelhead that Randy grilled.  Randy doesn't usually bring home the fish that he catches, but every so often he will, and the fish is always delish.  The asparagus summer salad that we ate with it was pretty yummy too.

We had some really nice weather for the first three days of spring break, but it has been raining ever since.  Thank goodness Randy took Monday off and we went to the beach then because otherwise his day off would have been pretty soggy.

We decided to go to Gearhart because we thought Cannon Beach might be really crowded.  The beach at Gearhart was awesome, and you can see that there was hardly anyone there.

Trey got really excited about burying his "guys" in the sand.  It nearly put me into a panic attack because I was just waiting for one to go missing or for us to find out after we got home that one was left buried at the beach.  Luckily, Randy took over the burying duties and did a great job keeping track of all the little figures.

This may be one of my favorite pictures ever.

Randy decided to bury Trey too, and he got a real kick out of that.
So much so that he didn't want to get unburied...at all.

It would have been nice to spend more time on the beach, but we had lunch and a car nap to think about, so our visit was short.  Still, best beach weather ever, and Trey had a ball.

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday Trey went to daycare so I could go to work one day, get prepped for class, and tackle my to do list.  It felt good to get some things taken care of, but I would have preferred a little more spring break leisure time.  Trey and I have had some quality time together this week though, and that's all that matters.

Movie time with Trey and Mommy.
Trey had popcorn and Peter Pan.
I had a glass of wine, my book, and cuddles from my boy.
Perfect!

Friday we spent a good chunk of time with Julie, Grady, and Case because Tim was out of town and Julie wanted/needed some company.  We took the boys to Jenni and Tommy's Kids Unplugged, and it was really awesome.  It's a little house that has been turned into a giant play area, and the kids had a great time.  I will definitely be going back there this summer.

Making snow angels in dried beans, of course

On the way home that night, there was a rainbow in our neighborhood.  Trey has only seen one other rainbow before, so I was really excited, but the kid wouldn't even look at it.  Long day + no nap = I don't give a flying fig about a rainbow, mommy.

We had a really fun day yesterday.  First was swimming lessons with boat safety this week, then we stopped at Annie Bloom's Books to see if they had Overwhelmed (they did not - bummer), and then we met some friends at Play Boutique, another open play area.   Later in the day, we went out to happy hour with Randy and then went to see Frozen at the theater.  Overall, A+ day.

Sitting with my child at Annie Bloom's reading books to him is something I used to dream about.

Trey found the stage, of course.

First time in a movie theater!

Watching Trey have so much fun watching the movie in the theater really warmed my heart.  I'd look over at him and for some reason his expressions and smiles made me think of my mom.  She and I used to love going to movies, and it was so special to see Trey feel joy.  Maybe he'll get the movie bug and he can be my new movie buddy.

Now we are back to Sunday, the last chunk of free time before we get back to the grind.  Spring term is going to be absolutely nuts with my class at PSU, my workload at the ESD, and uncertainty about my job for next year.  If I was smart, I would be spending this afternoon reading the chapters I am lecturing on tomorrow or cleaning the bathrooms, but apparently I'd rather blog.  Trey and I just left to go to the library (to pick up a new book for me to read - yahoo!) and the grocery store, but this is what happened on the way there...

Three days in a row without a nap...
